The Morning After: Tuvalu, Threatened By Climate Change, Turns To The Metaverse

Speaking at the COP27 Climate Summit yesterday, Tuvalu's Minister of Foreign Affairs Simon Coffey said Tuvalu will explore the true meaning of preserving its culture and history. The Pacific island nation is particularly vulnerable to sea level rise, with global temperatures projected to rise by 2.8°C by the end of the century. At the COP26 summit last year, Coffey spoke about deep sea waters to conference attendees to highlight the threat of climate change. Climate scientists predict that the entire country will be under water by the end of the 21st century.

Speaking at the Climate Summit, Coffey said: “Our country is on the verge of disappearing, and we have no choice but to become the world’s first digital nation. Our land, our oceans, and our culture are our people’s most valuable assets. Whatever happens in the physical world to keep them safe, we will bring them to the cloud.”

The world has eight years to achieve the 1.5°C target proposed in the Paris agreement, which would reduce annual global emissions by an additional 45% compared to projections based on current policies.

Pure and Touring brings air prices closer to the world.

The Lucid Air is a great first car from the new automaker, but it's also an expensive electric car out of most people's reach. At the Los Angeles Auto Show, Lucid unveiled the Lucid Air Pure and Touring electric cars. The Pure is the first and only Air model under $100,000, starting at a still pricey $87,400 with a range of about 410 miles. Yes, the Air is still a luxury car. The Touring is slightly more expensive at $107,400 and has an EPA-estimated range of 425 miles. While the Pure wasn't ready for testing, we got behind the wheel of the Touring for a quick tour of the Lucid headquarters.

It can help predict the weather and drive autonomously.

Last year, MIT developed an AI algorithm that can learn and adapt to new information on the job, not just during training. These "liquid" neural networks are ideal for critical tasks such as pacemaker monitoring, weather forecasting, investment forecasting, or autonomous vehicle navigation. But all this information can create computational bottlenecks, making these systems very expensive. MIT researchers announced Tuesday that they've found a solution using a differential equation that has baffled mathematicians since 1907. The team hopes that by deciphering this equation at the level of neurons, they can build models of the human brain scaled by millions of neurons. Links that are impossible today.

The 4K gaming giant is (a little) more practical.

The NVIDIA RTX 4080 is a huge improvement over the 3080 Ti, with better overall performance and better ray tracing thanks to DLSS 3. It's much cheaper than the 4090 and consumes less power. But it's still $1,199. Graphics card sounds crazy to you and let's be clear, sit back and see what the next cards from NVIDIA will look like.

He intends to buy chips from Europe in the future.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman , Apple plans to use US-made chips for several years. As reported, CEO Tim Cook announced this during a meeting with local engineers and retailers in Germany and told them that "Apple has decided to buy the Arizona plant." As Gorman points out, this would reduce Apple's dependence on factories in Asia, particularly in Taiwan, where 60 percent of the world's processors are made. Cook reportedly told employees, "I'm sure we'll be buying products from Europe when those plans become clearer."

One of the most prominent updates provided by Apple to the iPhone 14 series this year is the Emergency SOS system via satellite. It allows you to send text messages to emergency services via satellite if you need help outside of mobile phone coverage. If you're not familiar with this feature, and most of us probably are, Apple is releasing a beta version of Emergency SOS via satellite so the public can see how it works.

It is suggested that the Ghost's design is very similar to that of the Spot.

Boston Dynamics is suing Ghost Robotics for infringing seven patents related to the four-legged Spot. Spirit 40 and Vision 60 are said to borrow key technologies from Spot, including self-healing and stair-climbing systems. Boston Dynamics said it asked Ghost Robotics to review patents related to Spot in July 2020, five months after the launch of the Spirit 40. Since then, Boston claims it sent Ghost two cease and desist letters telling it to stop selling its robot. . Boston Dynamics Dogs said it "welcomes competition" but will crack down on anyone who infringes on its intellectual property rights. The Hyundai-owned company is seeking unspecified damages in the lawsuit. Ghost Robotics did not respond to our requests for comment.
