Clemson Blown Out By Virginia Tech In Latest Setback
Sean Pedula had a career-high 32 points and the Virginia Tech Tigers got the closest a team had to a top-notch offense against Clemson on Wednesday night at Castle Coliseum, dropping its third straight ACC tournament 87-72.
The Tigers (11-4 overall, 1-3 conference) fell behind again, trailing by 12 points in the first half before Chauncey Wiggins hit a 3-pointer to cut the halftime deficit to 53-44.
The Hokies (10-5 overall, 2-2 conference) shot 61.9 percent in the first half against a Clemson team that hasn't won since Dec. 29 and was a defensive threat a week before ACC play resumed. .
The Tigers got within four points on five different occasions in the second half, but couldn't get the ball.
Tyler Nickell hit a 3-pointer with 5:32 to play to cut Virginia Tech's lead to 75-66 and force a Clemson timeout. Robbie Berra hit a 3-pointer with 2:48 left to make it 81-70.
Overall, Virginia Tech finished the game 12-2. He was also the biggest lead of the night with a 15-point margin of victory.
The Hokies hit 13 3-pointers on the night and went 4-for-5 from beyond the arc in the first half. They started the game by scoring 12 of the first 19 balls.
Ian Schieffelin led Clemson with 15 points and eight rebounds in just 24 minutes. PJ Hall was held to 11 points and made just 4 of 13 shots. Wiggins scored 12 points and made 5 of 7 shots.
Nickell had a game-high 24 points for Virginia Tech.
Next . Clemson hosts Boston College (10-4 overall, 1-2 conference) at Littlejohn Coliseum on Saturday at 3:00 EST. The game will be televised on the ACC Network.
