I Tried Acer's Aspire 3D 15 SpatialLabs Laptop And Couldn't Believe My Eyes
Ahead of this year's mega-tech trade show CES 2024, I got to test one of Acer's new laptops, which offers a very special feature indeed: the Acer Aspire 3D 15 SpatialLabs Edition has a stereoscopic display that enables realistic 3D viewing. time-lapse images without the need for additional glasses.
Sure, the Aspire 3D 15 SpatialLabs Edition doesn't make many people's best laptop lists, but for most people, it's not a laptop, it's a computer for designers and custom designers working with computer-generated models. Maybe you're a video game character designer or engineer, or you work in model animation.
I've seen SpatialLabs technology before in the ConceptD (Acer's range has been discontinued in the UK) as well as a couple of monitors where it was impressive. They're all equally interesting, but what makes the Aspire more interesting is that it's an Aspire – so it's not a super high-end laptop that's going to cost you a lot of money.
When the Aspire 3D goes on sale in February, it will be priced at $1,399 (somehow more expensive in Europe, €1,999 at the upcoming launch date in March; it's not. No UK pricing yet) for a laptop that can offer very specific and useful features for a niche audience. very meaningful.
This feature has to be seen to be believed, especially since stereoscopic displays have not kept up with current trends, at least in the past. Objects actually floated before my eyes when looking at the Acer's screen with 3D enabled and of course in compatible applications. They seem to come straight from the screen and give the image a really believable depth.
There are many behind-the-scenes features that mean this: an Intel Core i7 (13620H) processor paired with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 with 32GB of RAM can render these three-dimensional images well. However, you will sweat a lot because this laptop generates a lot of heat and makes a lot of fan noise.
However, if you have a specific job that requires you to travel and fill out designs where such a screen is handy, this affordable and impressive notebook is one to look out for. I see them. Expert, location, whatever you want to call it - sometimes technology is so great that it has to be seen to be believed (although the pictures on this page don't quite capture the feeling). This Acer is one of its products.
