Strong IPhone 15 Sales Could See Apple Overtake Samsung
Samsung has always sold the most smartphones every year thanks to its many models, but in 2023 Apple will take the lead for the first time.
Apple's three to four new iPhone models each year outnumber Samsung's phones, and it's key for Samsung to dominate the market. Recently, as the global smartphone market continues to decline, Samsung has been wondering if Apple has a better approach.
Samsung has been focusing on high-end smartphones as it seems to have weathered the global crisis well. But for now, whether or not Samsung's earnings will help it bounce back from its poor performance remains a matter of luck for Apple.
According to Trendforce 's study of smartphone manufacturing orders, the gap between Samsung and Apple is close enough that the two companies could trade at the top of the sales charts for an entire year in 2023.
"It's interesting that Apple and Samsung are so close in their annual productivity forecasts," TrendForce said. "If the iPhone 15 lineup exceeds market expectations, Apple is likely to dethrone Samsung from its long-standing global market leadership position."
But this depends on the better-than-expected performance of the new iPhones, and it has been reported separately that Apple expects iPhone 15 sales to slow compared to last year's iPhone 14.
However, Apple has fared better than its competitors during the crisis. While Android makers are seeing big sales drops, Apple tends to have better sales drops and smaller sales drops.
Although smartphone makers are experiencing further declines in sales globally, Apple's relative strength has been steadily gaining market share.
Apple will announce the new iPhone 15 series on September 12, 2023. It is said that at least some models will see significant price increases after the iPhone 14 lineup.
