Oppos Find N3 Flip Fashion Phone Is Ready For Its Closeup
Oppo's latest rubber phone is the Oppo Find N3 Flip, a 6,799 yuan (about US$932) foldable model that debuted in China but will soon be available worldwide. The Find N3 Flip will go up against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Motorola Razr, and while both phones have tried to improve on their previous big screens, the N3 Flip's front screen is essentially the same size as last year's Find N3 Flip. . However, Oppo makes up for this with a fairly comprehensive spec sheet.
It's a full-size phone with a 6.8-inch, 2520 x 1080, 120Hz OLED display that folds in half to create a smaller 16.45mm square thickness. When closed, you can casually glance at the small 3.26-inch front screen. What's interesting about this design is that the 720 x 382 60Hz OLED front screen looks like a small phone and you have small apps like media player for playing, notification screen and weather app, gym. applications and many others. The front display is not as big as Oppo's competitors, as it has a large circular camera with three sensors, a 50 MP main camera, a 48 MP ultra-wide camera and a 2x 32 MP telephoto camera.
The SoC is a Mediatek Dimensity 9200, which means it has a 4nm SoC with an Arm Cortex. It also has 12GB of RAM, 256GB or 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage, a side-mounted fingerprint reader, Wi-Fi 7 and NFC support.
The big downside to this foldable is of course the battery, and you get a 4,300mAh battery with 44W charging. A foldable phone of this size would have a 5,000 mAh battery, but that compares to another case: the Galaxy Z Flip. 5's 3700mAh and the Razr's 3800mAh - that's fine. All of these specs are actually pretty good. Sometimes clamshells come with crappy components, but this feels like a flagship device.
With the N3 Flip, Oppo's marketing department followed the "flip phone as a fashion accessory" theory. Almost every image on the marketing page features a stylish person on a cruise ship, a wedding, or an art gallery. Oppo has teamed up with fashion companies to create a series of cases that all look like designer handbags, some with shoulder straps.
The "fashion" aspect is important here, as these new-age flip phones don't offer serious usability benefits if you're trying to get things done. When flipped open, it behaves just like a regular phone, but you've spent a lot of money on a foldable screen and have to deal with questionable durability and give up great battery life thanks to the hinge. You better assume this phone looks good, just like almost every flip phone they offer. If you like the look, great! But apart from that, a regular phone is much more convenient.
The design of the N3 Flip is a bit different this year: the top has a rounded glass back, compared to last year's flat model. The sides are polished to a high gloss finish and the camera bump has nice twists. Oppo has also borrowed the three-position mute button from its subsidiary, OnePlus. It is available in quite attractive rose, pearl gold and black.
If you're ready for the show, pre-orders are live in China now and the phone will ship in September. The N2 Flip has been widely distributed, so it will eventually reach the whole world.
