Our government has taken a straightforward approach: rubber stamp compounds and technology without regulation. This policy approach aims to create a level playing field for new technology industries and export our values.

And it works! But only partially. Our one-shot technology principles transformed these startups into the world's first multi-trillion dollar companies. But Big Tech fails to execute our values ​​and even contemplate the goal.

Big Tech's involvement in China is an example.

Worse, Big Tech uses centralized control to shut out new startups, control them, or steal features from their competitors. and "linking and promoting large networks of accounts publicly dedicated to the commission and procurement of child sexual content."

The company has complete control over the digital advertising market to arbitrarily increase digital advertising spend. In short, the more you pay for products online, the richer you become.

Last Congress, bipartisan senators and representatives introduced legislation to combat the effects of Big Tech's centralized control by improving our antitrust laws, protecting our children, and creating a national privacy regime.

Unfortunately, our government still thinks these corporations can help us fight China, even though they support the CCP all day long and consistently support policies nationwide that undermine our core values, such as freedom of speech, religion, or association. . .

And Big Tech has helped the Chinese government strengthen its anti-American sentiment. Apple has a multi-billion dollar deal with the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) to provide a back channel for all Apple devices on the mainland.

In fact, these facts should challenge whether Big Tech shares American values.

It's even more important that our nation gets AI right when deciding how to manage it. It's no secret that the Chinese government wants to militarize its AI capabilities; If we don't, we will lose that digital arms race.

Currently, the AI ​​market is concentrated among a few companies dominated by Big Tech. Worse, almost all of them have significant ties to China and its government.

Our national security and individual liberties demand that Congress approach AI with a clear view of who these companies are and their values ​​in their actions, not just their words.

The truth is that the big tech companies are not our champions and it is our policy to stop treating them as such. Instead, we should treat them as a corporation. Let's initiate meaningful bipartisan reforms to protect our customers, our children, and address our national security.
