De'Vion Harmon Settles Things Down, Helps No. 23 Texas Tech Down Louisiana Tech
Davion Harmon is a calming and welcoming presence when he smiles.
On Monday, the Oregon transfer guard knew he had to do more to save No. 23 Texas Louisiana Tech at United Supermarkets Arena.
The team had one possession in the second half before Harmon took the lead with a layup before driving through the lane to set up Kerwin Walton's 3-pointer and finish off a fastball. A 14-1 home run helped the Red Raiders beat the Bulldogs 64-55.
Harmon tied Kevin O'Bannor with 15 points, six assists, five rebounds, four steals and two blocks to finish the night as the all-time leader. Freshman Richard "Pop" Isaacs finished with 10 points, his first game in double figures as a Red Raider.
Despite leading by 14 points at halftime, the Bulldogs cut the deficit to two as the Turtles beat LA Tech's Kenny Hunter to give the Red Raiders a 39-37 lead.
Harmon's jumper started a 14-1 run that was capped by two last minute shots by Isaacs and gave Texas Tech its largest lead of the game, 53-38, with eight minutes remaining.
After Isaac and Daniel Pacho went on a short 4-0 run, the Bulldogs cut the lead to eight points (58-50) and built a 62-50 cushion with just enough 1:23 left for the win.
Red Raiders (3-0) lead 16-2: Jaylon Tyson scored seven points, including the third straight game opener.
The Bulldogs (1-1) got back into the contest with three Red Raider turnovers (12 total in the first clip) and a three-point play to make it 10-0.
A layup by Kenny Hunter began before Jordan Crawford hit a bucket and Lamar Washington fouled Keston Williams. Caleb Stewart hit a 3-pointer to cut Louisiana Tech's deficit to 30-27 with 30 seconds left in the first half.
Texas Tech, leading 16-2 with 11:40 left, added a basket before the half when O'Banor hit a high-post layup to give the Red Raiders a 32-27 lead before the locker room.
The second half saw the Red Raiders take a 15-point lead (53-38) before Harmon hit a jumper and went on a 14-1 run to tie the game with 7:38 left.
The Bulldogs did some interesting things before going down for the first time this season, their first true road game of the season.
