Technical.ly Just Hired An Entrepreneur Turned Public Media Exec To Lead Our Newsroom
Technical.ly is excited to welcome Dania Henninger as our new editor this week.
In this role, she oversees our multi-market media, including all of our website publications, social media, newsletters, and everything in between. He has a wealth of experience in journalism, and despite all the years I've known him, what he does always stands out to me.
“I'm a technologist and an entrepreneur myself,” Henninger told me. I met her almost a decade and a half ago when she and her husband started a commercial photo-video-digital imaging company. We've been around the world of coffee, drinks and collaboration for many years and share a passion for using journalism to challenge and capture change in communities.
We joke on social media and gossip on various occasions. New tools and big ideas are always involved. He is now responsible for sharpening Technical.ly's strengths and expanding the scope of its journalism.
“I look forward to exploring the latest technology and entrepreneurial business developments as part of my job,” he said. "Getting other people excited about these things, especially in terms of solutions and access, and increasing diversity, equity and belonging, that's going to be very satisfying."
Henninger is based in Philadelphia, where Technical.ly was founded, but the story of economic change is happening everywhere. Our goal is to provide you with the most detailed and accurate information possible.
Most recently, Billy Penn was director and editor of Rich Voice local news sources at WHYY, NPR's Philadelphia affiliate. There, he grew his newsletter to nearly 45,000 subscribers and built a membership base of more than 3,100 investors.
He has appeared in various media in the past, mainly on food and culture topics. He was always interested in business and financial incentives, but nothing attracted him more than people following their passion. I first worked with Henninger when he was editor of a local beer and spirits publication that he distributed in several American cities.
This multi-market experience is a perfect fit for Technical.ly, where Henninger will oversee our work, highlighting what works and what doesn't in the local urban context in terms of discovery and innovation, and sharing insights across geographic boundaries. His responsibilities include activating our daily newsletter, expanding our reach, managing grant-funded journalism, and developing new partnerships with the Technical.ly community and media organizations.
“I always saw Chris as a smart guy who talked. He doesn't just talk about innovation and entrepreneurship, he really lives it,” Henninger said. "I'm proud to be able to lead Technical.ly's journalism to excellence for the community of people who make the city I love stronger and more vibrant."
