Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro Vs. Google Pixel Buds Pro: Which Earbuds Are Right For You?
These are two of the best wireless headphones you can buy, they have a lot in common and choosing between them won't be easy.
We are talking about Galaxy Buds 2 Pro and Pixel Buds Pro, the latest flagship headphones from Samsung and Google. On paper, these headphones couldn't be more similar: each has active noise cancellation, surround sound mode, touch controls, voice assistant and long battery life. But one has to be better than the other, right?
Let's take a look and see which couple will go out with a bang.

In terms of design, the Pixel Buds Pro are incredibly comfortable. They're taller than other headphones and fit your ears a little differently, but once you put them on you'll be amazed at how they feel. I wore them for hours and my ears never got tired. Plus, they have a matte finish to stay in your ears better than glossy headphones.
On the other hand, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro look more like traditional headphones. They're small, round, and fit so snugly in your ear that it feels like you're wearing nothing. While the Pixel Buds Pro are a bit on the outside, they make the included touch controls easy to access as they sit nearly flush with the ear.
Both pairs are water and sweat resistant. The Pixel Buds Pro are IPX4 certified, while the Buds 2 Pro have slightly better IPX7 protection. Either way, you don't have to worry about your sweat damaging the headphones during exercise.
I'm kind of neutral about their cause. The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro sport a standard rounded square body, while the Pixel Buds Pro opt for a unique egg-shaped body. Each one is perfectly slim and fits easily into your pocket or purse.
TL; DR : Google's Pixel Buds Pro are perfectly comfortable and light enough to wear all day, but the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro have a more natural fit and feel like you're not wearing earbuds at all.
Similar in its design, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro is slightly better than the Pixel Buds Pro in terms of sound quality. But Google's headphones still manage to amaze.
Pixel Buds Pro's dedicated 11mm speakers deliver a warm and inviting sound stage to your ears, perfect for playing any genre of music you can imagine. Hip-hop sounds especially good on these headphones, as the extra bass delivered by Google's proprietary algorithm helps give tracks that extra kick you're looking for.
There are two areas where the Pixel Buds Pro take a back seat to the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro: podcasts and music with live instruments. Samsung's dedicated 10mm woofers and 5.3mm tweeters are able to deliver a wider frequency range to make what you're hearing clearer, so high-pitched vocals and acoustic instruments sound better. Slightly better than the Pixel Buds Pro
Additionally, Samsung Buds 2 Pro include 24-bit Hi-Fi audio support. You'll need a Samsung phone to enjoy it, as it uses a proprietary codec, but it's another example of how the Buds 2 Pro have higher resolution than Google's earbuds.
Also, Samsung headphones are the only ones that support 360-degree surround sound. Google says it will bring the feature to Pixel Buds Pro at some point, but hasn't yet.
TL; DR : The Pixel Buds Pro offer a great listening experience for all genres, while the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro are slightly better with more clarity for highs and mids.
ANC is a mix of Clarity and Intelligence Buds
Both the Pixel Buds Pro and Galaxy Buds 2 Pro fall short of other earbuds when it comes to active noise cancellation (ANC) and clarity, but that doesn't mean they aren't bad either.
Instead, each of them offers reliable ANC and blocks extraneous noise very well. Pixel Buds Pro block wind better than Buds 2 Pro, while Samsung earphones reduce loud noises for a more snug fit. Transparency mode (or ambient mode as they're also called) is essentially the same for the two pairs, but the Buds 2 Pro have helped make vocals a little less damp with their improved microphones.
Google and Samsung also provide information. With Pixel Buds Pro you can talk to the Google Assistant and get notifications, traffic, weather and more. you can follow. Meanwhile, the Buds 2 Pro integrates with Bixby, which is admittedly inferior to Google Assistant, but still useful. You'll also find a number of touch controls on each set of headphones for controlling music pause or volume, as well as EQ settings that can be customized via their respective apps.
TL; DR : Galaxy Buds 2 Pro and Pixel Buds Pro both have powerful ANC and transparency modes, as well as plenty of smart features. If we had to give a preference, we would prefer Google's headphones over Samsung's for better wind blocking.
The Pixel Buds Pro have better battery life and more device pairing than the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro
In my tests, I found that the Pixel Buds Pro easily outperformed the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro on a full charge.
Google quotes up to seven hours with ANC, while Samsung says its sprout will last five hours. Both of these estimates are correct, meaning you'll get up to 11 hours of battery life with ANC off on the Pixel Buds Pro and up to eight hours with the Buds 2 Pro. The Pixel Buds case also offers more power than the Galaxy Buds, so if you need extra long battery life for all-day listening, get the Pixel Buds Pro.
As a side note, both pairs offer wireless charging in addition to USB-C wired charging.
Another feature that Google's headphones do better than Samsung's is multi-device pairing. With Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, you are limited to pairing the earbuds with other Samsung devices that are signed into your Samsung account. Google, on the other hand, doesn't care what other devices get into the mix as long as it has a Bluetooth connection.
This immediately makes Pixel Buds Pro the perfect headphones for someone like me who loves the convenience of being connected to their phone and laptop while working. If you're deeply familiar with the Galaxy ecosystem, the Buds 2 Pro's limitations on pairing multiple devices won't bother you too much. For everyone, Google headphones are the best.
TL; DR : Google's Pixel Buds Pro are vastly superior to Samsung's Galaxy Buds 2 Pro when it comes to battery life and multi-device pairing.
Google and Samsung have really had a good time with their flagship headphones this year and it's hard to pin them down.
If you're more into the Samsung ecosystem and want a pair of headphones that easily connect to whatever you're carrying, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro are a great choice. For those without a Galaxy smartphone, you'll love the Pixel Buds Pro. Personally, I prefer the Buds 2 Pro for their richer sound and more comfortable fit, but with Google competing in the increasingly crowded wireless headphone market this year, take either pair will definitely make you think. Open them.
