Wisconsin Tech Month Is Almost Here

Wisconsin Tech Month is upon us and to celebrate we invited two leaders from the tech community: Nadia Johnson and Ben Jaura. Nadia Johnson is the CEO and founder of Jet Constellation and founder of Milky Way Tech Hub, and Ben Jaura is co-founder of Like | Minded and co-founder of Latinos in Tech. Do they have impressive resumes that prove they are industry savvy, but do they have the same opportunities as anyone else in the industry?

Our conversation focused on the lack of diversity in the technology sector and how to ensure funding, access and resources for the under-represented. We also discussed Milwaukee's current status in the tech industry and what changes we can make as a community to help others see Milwaukee as a tech hub. So this episode is for anyone involved in the tech industry and looking for ways to promote Wisconsin and be more involved in the tech industry.

Nadia and Ben are passionate about bringing diversity to technology and advocate equal access for black and brown-led organizations and other organizations in the Milwaukee area. You can see the difference by looking at the statistics, considering only 1% of black founders get VC funding. As Nadia says, “It's a question of funding, access and resources, and I also want to add the lack of support from the company. On the one hand, we see the company as an interlocutor.

And it's not just about funding these organizations, but also about disseminating information. Reflecting on his experiences with technology, Ben said: "What if someone told me when I was 12 or even 16 that I could do it? And then they showed me and explained that I would fly.
