Reno8 Z 5G offers stunning visuals, great design and smooth performance

Manila, Philippines - Smartphone brand OPPO recently launched its Reno8 5G series in the Philippines, which includes Reno8 5G and Reno8 Z 5G. Both are equipped with OPPO's flagship selfie system, allowing users to capture life's moments from day to night.

With an official price of €19,990, the OPPO Reno8 Z 5G is an affordable alternative to the 5G range of the Reno8 series, ideal for casual users who prefer a phone with style and creativity.

Philstar.com spent some time with the OPPO Reno8 Z 5G and our experience with the device.

First impression: smooth and shiny

The OPPO Reno8 Z 5G phone grabs your attention with its elegant back design and elegant and glossy look with an elegant sandblasted finish.

The device we got was Dawnlight Gold, which has a gradient cover filled with different shades of yellow, cyan, purple and gold, giving a beautiful 3D rainbow effect when light hits the device from different angles.

As for its appearance, the device has a metallic look complete with curved corners that give the device an elegant look. According to what OPPO calls "Ultra Slim Retro Design", the Reno8 Z 5G is light and easy to hold with a thickness of about 7.66mm and a weight of 181g.

Adding to the elegant design of the phone is OPPO Dual Orbit Lights. These ring prisms, neatly positioned below the camera modules, light up or flash in various situations, such as when the device is charging, playing games, or when there is an unread notification.

Portraiture specialists for a reason

OPPO Reno8 Z 5G has been dubbed the “Portrait Expert” to deliver stunning photos any time of the day.

The device has a 64MP triple rear camera and a 16MP front camera. Combined with powerful portrait features like Bokeh Flare Portrait for taking selfies with bokeh lighting, Selfie HDR for taking bright selfies in low-light environments, and more.

We took the device to different environments to test the OPPO Reno8 Z 5G lens, and as non-professional photographers, we also enabled the phone's AI scene optimization feature.

Although we lack the ability to take wide photos, the experience of shooting with the main camera of the device is very simple. Daytime photos were consistently sharp with saturated colors without any issues, and even night photos were brightly colored with minimal noise. Thanks to the device's sensors and AI improvements, it chooses the appropriate settings to use.

The front camera of the phone delivers clear selfies day and night, and the HDR selfie that preserves facial and background features even in low light makes it possible.

Now let's talk about the most promising thing about this device: portrait mode.

Rear camera bokeh during daytime and low-light conditions

In our experience, as expected, Portrait Mode did an excellent job of producing DSLR-like images with blurred backgrounds and creamy bokeh. The details of the hair, shirt and face flow naturally into the background creating the perfect picture.

OPPO Reno8 Z 5G is also thoughtful enough to add more features like AI Portrait Retouching, AI Pallet and AI Color Portrait.

Over the years, OPPO has steadily improved its photography capabilities and now shows what can be achieved when its AI algorithms work well with devices - sharp photos and stunning portraits.

Make your phone simple and smooth

OPPO Reno8 Z 5G is definitely a simple mid-range device. From the screen to the processor, the phone is designed to deliver what matters.

The device offers a somewhat immersive viewing experience with its 90.8% screen-to-body ratio and 6.4-inch AMOLED display that delivers sharp images and rich colors.

The device also has a refresh rate of 60Hz, which some may see as insufficient, but honestly, there's not much to complain about the OPPO Reno8 Z 5G display if you're a regular user whose screen activity usually relies on light gaming and streaming apps.

The device is able to provide stable and smooth gaming experience when playing Moba and FPS games. This is probably due to the fact that the OPPO Reno8 Z 5G runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G mobile platform with 8GB of RAM, 128GB of ROM and up to 1TB of expandable storage, which is more than enough build for most crashes.

OPPO Reno8 Z 5G also has a 4,500mAh battery that takes about an hour to fully charge via the 33W SUPERVOOC fast charging feature, making this device ideal for travelers.

After using the device for hours, we also noticed that the OPPO Reno8 Z 5G looks amazingly beautiful thanks to the updated 6-layer multi-layer cooling system under the hood.

Now, OPPO Reno8 Z 5G simplifies the overall experience as the device runs on ColorOS 12.1, providing users with a more personalized and convenient experience with anti-display notifications, air gestures, and Omoji avatars.

Our overall experience with the OPPO Reno8 Z 5G was simple, easy and smooth. In our opinion, this is how the many little pieces of this device complement each other and ultimately make the overall user experience cohesive.

Simply put, OPPO Reno8 Z 5G is a device that looks good and works well. If you are looking for a great phone with great imaging performance under your sleeve, this device is a good choice.

The OPPO Reno8 Z 5G and Reno8 5G are now available in OPPO trade stores, through Shopee and Lazada, and through plans offered by Smart and Globe.
