Fives Launches Its First 100% Hydrogen Duct Burner

Fives Launches Its First 100% Hydrogen Duct Burner

Fives, an industry leader with over 100 years of industrial combustion experience, has launched the first 100% hydrogen tube burner. Hy-Ductflam represents an important step in the decarbonization of heating and drying processes around the world, as hydrogen does not release carbon when burned. Designed for new installations or to replace standard tube furnaces, Fives' solution can be easily implemented by manufacturers with very limited process modifications.

A combination of economic and environmental performance for customers

Manufacturers are looking for alternatives to reduce their carbon footprint, and since hydrogen combustion does not release CO 2 , this solution reduces the environmental impact.

Always at the forefront, Fives developed the first 100% hydrogen tube furnace thanks to its ability to anticipate customer needs.

Fives' innovative Hy-Ductflam solution allows customers to easily switch fuels from 100% natural gas (NG) to 100% hydrogen (H 2 ) without any equipment modifications.

For example, using Fives' 100% Hy-Ductflam hydrogen, a paper mill will emit 170 kg less CO2 per ton of paper, which will significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions (by about 2/3).

With high efficiency and mechanical reliability, Hy-Ductflam is suitable for any duct configuration. This means it can be installed in new installations or as a replacement for standard tube burners, limiting manufacturers' costs.

“Five is at the forefront of hydrogen development and offers the widest range of compatible hydrogen torches on the market. We are proud to offer a new solution that meets our customers' decarbonization needs and we are excited about new innovations,” said Francesco Giudici, CEO of Fives ITAS.

This technology is mainly used for ceramics, minerals, pastes, etc. Drying applications are just some of them, but can be extended to other applications such as waste heat boilers.

Specifications:

  • For drying gas heat generators, turbines/motors after firing
  • Suitable for any piping configuration.
  • Transition from 100% NG to 100% H 2
  • High deviation (1:10 or more)
