Xiaomi 13 Ultra Goes Official W/ 1inch Variable Aperture Main Sensor

Xiaomi 13 Ultra Goes Official W/ 1inch Variable Aperture Main Sensor

Xiaomi 13 Ultra is now officially released, the main attraction of which is the main variable aperture camera and many other high-quality extras.

The 13 Ultra is an upgraded version of the Xiaomi 13 Pro with many impressive hardware additions. The 1-inch Sony IMX989 main camera sensor now has a variable aperture from f/1.9 to f/4.0. Xiaomi is not the first to add such a feature to a smartphone. You may remember that Samsung introduced aperture controls with the Samsung Galaxy S9 series. But a smaller sensor and less control over the amount of light that can hit the sensor.

Larger sensors and the ability to adjust the aperture mean you can control the light and depth of field in your photos and videos. However, the aperture control of the main camera of Xiaomi 13 Ultra is fixed at f/1.9 and f/4.0 – f/2.0 to f/3.5 are not available. Shots wide open at f/1.9 result in shallow depth of field, while f/4.0 should offer pleasing optics while maintaining a larger focus range.

This quad-camera setup also includes a 50MP f/1.8 ultra-wide camera that uses a Sony IMX858 sensor with a 122-degree field of view. The telesystem consists of two 50-megapixel Sony IMX858 sensors. 75mm (2.5x) telephoto lens with f/3.0 aperture and 120mm (5x) "super telephoto" lens with f/3.0 maximum aperture. The Xiaomi 13 Ultra uses Leica optics with numerous built-in features and additional image/video post-processing capabilities.

The phone is part of the package and is an impressive flagship phone for 2023. Xiaomi 13 Ultra is equipped with 6.73-inch 120Hz QHD+ AMOLED. Internals include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor paired with 12/16GB RAM and 256/512/1TB UV 4.0 storage. The 5000mAh battery provides 90W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. The charging port has also been upgraded to USB 3.2, enabling 5Gbps data transfer speeds over USB-C.

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra will be available in black, olive green and white with a faux leather case. It will be launched worldwide at a price of 1299 euros. However, no details have been released on when the device will be available in regions outside of China.
