Valve Stem Deck will soon face a new competitor developed by Asus. While the Steam Deck has been hugely popular since its initial release, with the exception of the Nintendo Switch, it's worth noting that handheld gaming devices have no competition. Asus is looking to change that with the release of its handheld, which the company confusingly announced on April Fools' Day.

While the Steam Deck isn't the only portable gaming device out there, with other options like the AYANEO 2 and Nintendo Switch, its competitors can't quite match the performance of Valve's portable electronics. The 64 GB Steam Deck is priced at $399.00, while the larger storage options retail for $529.00 and $649.00 for 256 GB and 512 GB respectively. Since Valve launched its Steam deck in 2022, no option has yet boasted of the quality it offers.

Asus showed off its own Steam Deck option, the ROG Ally, in its April Fools' Day announcement. While details about the price or release date of the ROG Ally are unknown, the device has already been listed at retailers such as Best Buy. However, ASUS says the handheld has a dedicated AMD chip and users can connect the device to a TV to charge and play games on the ROG XG Mobile eGPU. ASUS also announced that ROG Ally is compatible with various platforms such as Microsoft Windows and Xbox Game Pass.

ROG Ally is the newest Steam deck competitor, and while details are scarce, users can expect ASUS to launch a major competitor. The announcement came as a bit of a surprise to online watchers, especially since ASUS revealed the device on April 1. Since its first appearance, ASUS has confirmed that the device is legit and the ROG Ally has been shared on Twitter, setting up more options for the upcoming Steam line. Although a release date has yet to be announced, users can expect the device to be a strong competitor to Valve's popular gaming suite.
