  • The Vivo smartphone named "Vivo X Flip" has received Google Play certification.
  • The Vivo X Flip will complement Vivo's existing foldable lineup, which includes the Vivo X Fold.

The new Vivo device, model number V2256A, has just received Google Play certification. What's interesting about this device is that it has been certified for the Vivo X Flip brand, which indicates that the Chinese OEM is looking to launch a foldable flip-style device that can compete with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4.

Vivo already has a great foldable in the form of the Vivo X Fold, which has the same form factor as the Galaxy Z Fold 4. So it makes sense that the company is now moving towards foldable devices with a foldable shell as the next frontier.

But before you get too excited, the Google Play certification isn't really a guarantee that the Vivo X Flip will be released globally. It only shows that the device can use Google Play services in an authorized manner, it remains to be seen whether Vivo will bring its foldable flip to the global market. Competitors like the OPPO Find N2 Flip have been released outside of China, so we're optimistic, but don't hold our breath.

A Vivo X Flip with model number V2256A was also spotted on Geekbench last week. The benchmark results show that the device could be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC, 12GB of RAM and Android 13. Note that the Geekbench result lists are easy to manipulate, so take these specs with a grain of salt. salt.

According to digital chat station Weibo, the Vivo X Flip will sport a 6.8-inch main display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The phone is expected to feature a 50MP Sony IMX866 main camera and a 12MP Sony IMX663 ultra-wide one. The rear cameras of Vivo flagships will continue to feature ZEISS branding.

We expect Vivo X Flip to launch next month, but probably only in China for now. As mentioned, we don't know if the company plans to roll out the device in other regions. But it's still nice to see more companies turn up their focus on the folding space.
