Overnight, Wall Street was again in doubt after the publication of the minutes of the February meeting of the US Federal Reserve System, which raised the possibility of an unconditional recession.

Earlybird Eddy Sunarto reports that the minutes of the FOMC meeting will continue to raise interest rates and that a recession is "possible," with nearly all Fed officials saying they will vote for a 25 basis point increase at the Feb. 1 meeting.

"Several" policymakers flatly rejected a 50bp hike, others said the risk of a recession had "increased" and all participants believed inflation was a key factor in future price projections.

Tech stocks rallied today (which isn't too crazy given how strong it was the night before). Palo Alto Networks rose 12.5 percent after the cybersecurity company raised its profit forecast, while Intel fell 2 percent after the troubled chipmaker lost ground.

In Japan, the Nikkei fell 1.34%, despite the fact that local authorities announced further delays to pandemic restrictions and the lifting of restrictions on "higher rates".

Among the top performers this morning was Mt Monger Resources (ASX: MTM) , which surged 37.5% following news that the Pomme REE-Nb project in Quebec, Canada had signed a binding option agreement with Geomega Resources, which is listed on the TSX.V.

The project is a known carbon well with exceptionally limited drill results showing rare earth element (REE) and niobium (Nb) enrichment and is considered a high potential exploration target.

Renovated in 2012, the thick metal diamond fittings include:

• 508.3m TREO with 0.43%, 413ppm Nb2O5 and 1.48% P2O5, from a depth of 73.7m; I
• 478.1 M in 0.12% TREO, 340 ppm Nb2O5 and 2.14% P2O5, 25.9 M in EOH.

It is adjacent to the Pomme Montville REE-Nb deposit (owned by Geomega), which is generally defined and estimated at 266 Mt grading 1.45% TREO and 0.14% Nb2O5.

Meanwhile, FYI Resources (ASX: FYI ) is up 28.8% this morning after Alcoa (NYSE: AA ) shed more than 70% of its price on news it is seeking a partner for a high-purity alumina project . Outside the pool and the house.

FYI says Alcoa contributed $5 million to the first phase of development, and the work so far "demonstrated the utility of the FYI process for producing high-purity alumina," so HPA decided not to pursue further development.
