Xiaomi Plans To Launch Flagship Redmi Phone Above Rs 30,000 In 2023; Redmi Note S, T Series Dropped To Streamline Portfolio
At the launch event for its flagship Redmi Note 12 5G series, Xiaomi revealed some big insights about its approach in 2023 in terms of product positioning and pricing. The company seems much clearer about its future roadmap, setting clear goals for users and critical feedback. Key deals include an optimized wallet and plans to launch a 'premium' Redmi phone priced above Rs 30,000.
Both pieces are important. Before the launch of the Redmi Note 12 series in India, the company admitted that launching too many phones with the Redmi Note 11 series was a "misstep" and was ready to correct the course by launching fewer models. The Redmi Note 12 series "stands out in all segments." At the event, Xiaomi reiterated this with more information (not previously shared) and announced that it will launch the Redmi Note S and T series this year.
“We promise a much cleaner and tidier wallet this year,” Xiaomi India President Muralikrishnan B said during his speech, adding that “Redmi Note S and T series have been removed to simplify and clean up the wallet [according to User's comments]". .

The Note 12 series currently produces three models. These are the standard Redmi Note 12, Redmi Note 12 Pro, and Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus. The Redmi Note 12 starts at Rs 17,999 for 4GB/128GB and can go up to Rs 19,999 for 6GB/128GB. The Redmi Note 12 Pro is available in 6GB/128GB for Rs 24,999, 8GB/128GB for Rs 26,999, and 8GB/256GB for Rs 27,999. The top shelf Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus, on the other hand, starts at Rs 29,999 for 8GB/256GB and can go up to Rs 32,999 for 12GB/256GB.
With the "pro" Redmi Note series, Xiaomi wants to offer great features in a "pocket-friendly" package. But the company is also planning to launch the Redmi K series, which is now touted as the Redmi flagship that will compete with other Xiaomi flagships.
These Redmi K series phones will be priced above Rs 30,000 and could go higher. This is a slight change from what we've seen, for example, the Redmi K50i, which launched at around Rs 25,000 and is currently available starting at Rs 23,999. Xiaomi may be talking more about the Redmi K60 phone model that comes with premium hardware like Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 and wireless charging (the phone is said to have finally launched in India, as a Poco phone).
Whatever it is, we'll soon find out. Watch this space for more information.
