(Updated at 12:05 p.m.) Shift5, a data and cybersecurity company that protects planes, trains and tankers, is moving to new and bigger digs in Rosslyn in 2023.

In early December, it expanded its office space at 1100 Wilson Blvd by 67% to accommodate the growing number of employees. The new company will grow its headcount by more than 50% by 2022, funded by a $50 million Series B funding round completed earlier last year.

The building, owned by column sponsor Monday Properties, is home to the Sfoglina restaurant and the headquarters of defense and aerospace company Raytheon Technologies.

Shift5 says investing in more office infrastructure provides the flexibility, empowerment and accountability it offers employees to work where it's best for them. Since 2019, the startup has allowed its American employees to use offices or work remotely.

“Despite the economic turmoil, Shift5 has grown our workforce by 54% this year alone. Thanks to our work with the government, we have weathered most of this turbulence and have been fortunate enough to continue to grow,” said Shift5 CEO and co-founder. Josh Lospinoso told ARLnow. "We are hybrid by design and will remain so, but some of our teams want to work in person and collaborate in real time," the statement said.

The company says its presence in Arlington allows it to accelerate the pace of technology outside of Silicon Valley and keep up with the U.S. Department of Defense's decisions to improve critical infrastructure.

The office will have more than 80 desks, meeting and group activity spaces, flexible workspaces with standing desks, easy-to-move furniture and dedicated quiet zones. The new office space also includes a wellness room for nursing mothers and those looking to meet their physical and mental health needs during the workday.

2022 was a big year for Shift5. Along with raising $50 million, he hired three C-level executives: his chief financial officer, director of research and chief technology officer.
