'Thats The Secret To Getting Rich And Moving Up In Tech.'

'Thats The Secret To Getting Rich And Moving Up In Tech.'

TikToker Jenna Hushka, who posts humorous corporate videos on TikTok, asked her followers a question that sparked a viral response from another user on the platform named Courtney.

In Hushka's video, he asked, "What in the corporate world were you not ready for?"

User Courtney (@champagnec0c0) edited the video and touched on an aspect of American business leadership, and viewers in her TikTok comments section nodded in agreement.

"It's specific to the tech industry," he says in the clip. "Now in my particular technology area, I was surprised that there were so many people in leadership positions because they were 10th, 15th, 20th employees."

He also said that many people "came into leadership not because they were the best at their jobs, not because they were experts in the field, but because they came in first."

Other platform users chimed in with their own reactions, noting that they too have found themselves in situations where people in leadership positions are not aware of their business products or are not well versed in the nature of the company. The services they provide are paid over and over again. Some even cite nepotism as having played a role.

"Data! And usually it's someone," one user shared

"Especially in startups!" Another iteration.

"Emphasize the fact that they know little or nothing about the subject, but their opinion will always carry more weight than the actual knowledge of CI", explains one user.

"Good. My old VP didn't really have a digital marketing background, but he came in early and he definitely knew someone," said another.

"Same with the tech company I worked at. I asked the manager what his leadership style was and he couldn't give me a clear answer," wrote another.

Others felt that this technique was often used to advance in the technology industry.

“And that's the secret to getting rich and advancing technology. Sad but true,” they wrote.

Bill Gates, one of the most famous figures in technology and one of the world's richest men, helped transform Microsoft into the $1.75 trillion company it is today. Bill's mother, Mary Gates, played a "critical role" in helping her son secure a deal with IBM that would have Microsoft responsible for creating a pre-installed operating system that would run every personal computer in the world. The company IBM was a verifiable technology empire and is today one of the largest technology companies in the world. While the brand floundered in the 1990s, Gates' deal with the computer monolith in the 1980s at the height of its power set the tech company on the path it is on today.

However, from a top management perspective, some argue that full knowledge of the inner workings of the technology, detailed coding, etc. It is unnecessary and often harmful. Steve Jobs is often considered the most forward-thinking tech CEO of all time who took over the company he founded and was fired from. Although Jobs was by no means known as a technologist, his ability to understand what would impress end users made him a valuable executive at Apple, and his work laid the foundation for the company's transformation into a 2-year-old company. , 2 billion dollars.

However, Courtney seems to talk mostly about corporate nepotism and "wasting time" which is often frowned upon. A 2022 Vantage Circle blog states, “The problem with nepotism is that it can destroy a supportive work environment and demotivate employees…” because it ultimately negates the growth of other valuable assets within a company. Top talent in the industry can start to feel undervalued, especially if they're doing their best and not paying jobs, while someone else gets a better raise/promotion/position just because he's worked longer, but isn't. Do not necessarily show great courage.
