A Key Moment For King Viserys On Last Night's House Of The Dragon Was Improvised
As this season of House of Dragons prepares for the battles ahead, the Tide Lord brings a brief sense of peace to the ailing King Viserys (Paddy Considine). For the first time in years, the whole family comes to King's Landing to take control of Driftmark, almost surprising him with some heartwarming moments: Faithful Grace.
The director of the series, Geeta Patel, said that these moments happened by chance.
In the episode, we see Damon (Matt Smith) helping his brother Viserys ascend to the throne, which the king allows even though he wants to fight through the pain of the problem to get his way. "Damon is helping Viserys ascend the throne because Viserys is too weak to do it himself," Patel explained. "First the soldier walks up to Viserys, Viserys shakes him and says, 'No, no, no.' I can do it myself. He is proud. Then another man approaches her and she thinks it's a soldier, but it's actually her brother. While we were filming. The crown fell off Paddy's head and Matt picked it up and we continued. We didn't stop [filming]. That moment was revealed there." It was the most touching scene last night.
Patel talked to Considine and Smith about keeping the photo after that; "They said: "We heard. This is a time of silence. Then we said. “We're going to have dinner and then Damon will speak. Will we win this time?" We decided to bend both sides where the crown falls and where the crown does not fall. Finally there was silence. “Every time the crown fell, we all held our breath and thought at the same time. At least in my opinion, during the editing process we discovered that the crown had fallen off.'
Smith's dinner speech when Damon finished on time, but Patel explained: “It was an afterthought. It was more about dinner. When Damon gave that speech, there were too many people in the room not to get emotional. the reason why the crown disaster happened, thank you very much, because, at least for me, it was a turning point in the story that started in the pilot. Hey, I want your crown and finally I'm going to put the crown back on your head and help you ascend to your throne.
House of Dragons airs Sundays on HBO and HBO Max.
