Your Answers To WINK News Backtoschool Survey

Desantis Wants Asymptomatic Floridians To Forgo Covid 19 Testing Amid High Demand Wfla

Fort Myers

There are three weeks left before the start of the school year. That's enough time for teachers, parents, and students to know how things are going. Thanks to the hundreds of people who took part in our WINK News survey, we can tell you what's good and bad about school in Southwest Florida and what's in store for us this school year.

More than 750 teachers, parents and students spoke to WINK about everything from mental health to COVID-19, the Parent Education Act (Don't Tell Gays Act) and whether the shortage of teachers and bus drivers slows down. classroom performance... But the obvious priority for those who took part in our unscientific survey is the safety and security of all schools.

As students get off the bus in the morning and arrive in class before the bell rings, 40% of parents, teachers and students say safety and security are top priorities this year, according to a report by WINK News . Early Childhood Survey.

This week, a comment from the high school student's mother Ida Baker made news about the threat. This mother responded to the survey the same day and said: "I was waiting for this survey until my daughter came home from school today and told me what safety measures are in place at her school… well, that's how it is."

He said he did not notice any additional police officers. He didn't like the students and staff having to gather in the hall and wait, and he was sure the teachers were also worried about their safety. His last line is: "There is no school security here."

Several teachers have raised this question. Apparently doors that are supposed to close when closed sometimes don't. WINK News is investigating this allegation.

And with the students? Someone said, “One time we were locked up, and we were all in the hallway, and there were people. So I'm worried about my safety, because where are we all going to hide if something really happens?"

But there is good news: nearly 75% of parents, teachers and students surveyed say schools are safe. Is this sniper training? Or the security measures taken at local schools after the shooting of Marjorie Stoneman Douglas?

A parent said: “I think the police are here together. They have a contingency plan." Another parent who commented on our investigation said the school kept the front door locked and there was always a police officer there.

Who specifically participated in the survey? Nearly 400 people have identified themselves as parents or guardians. About 200 of them said they were teachers, school staff or students.

And after? WINK News will reach out to those who have said they want to share their thoughts on this school year and send all scores to Southwest Florida school districts for official review.
