Valve Wants Steam Deck To Run Windows 11
Steam Deck will run a pre-installed version of Linux called Valve SteamOS when it arrives this winter. All titles from the Steam Store on a portable console must run directly on SteamOS. The best thing about Steam Deck, however, is that Valve doesn't force users to use the Linux version. We call them handheld consoles, but the Steam Deck is more of a portable computer. And Steam Deck can run Windows out of the box. You can install any version of Windows if you want to spend the extra money on a Windows license. We hope that Windows 11 will become one of the supported versions of Windows Steam Deck.

Controversies about Windows 11 updates
Windows 11 is one of the hottest tech topics right now. Unfortunately, the modernization argument takes up much of the debate. This new operating system has special hardware requirements that will help Microsoft make Windows more secure than ever before. This means that some users who want to upgrade to Windows 11 may not be able to do so.
Microsoft has strict hardware requirements when it comes to PC motherboards. The BIOS must enable the Trusted Compatibility Module (TPM) to pass the Windows 11 upgrade test. This is a simple solution to ensure your Windows 10 PC is updated to the next version. However, if there is no TPM, you need to upgrade the motherboard or the entire computer.
Plus, you can keep using Windows 10 for years.
Lock from AMD with Steam Deck compatibility
Of course, new devices like the Steam Deck should be subject to the same update tests. Therefore, Steam Deck must enable TPM for users to run Windows 11. Otherwise, they will be stuck in the Windows 10 world forever.
Valve told PC Gamer that they are working closely with AMD to get Windows 11 running on portable devices.
"TPM is currently a work in progress," Valve Steam Deck designer Greg Coomer wrote on his blog. "Until now, we've been so focused on Windows 10 that we haven't even thought about it. We hope we can do that."
"It's also an ongoing conversation with AMD to make sure we can address this at the BIOS level," Coomer said. "So, so far, nothing indicates to us that there will be problems with Windows 11."
Why is Steam Deck support important for Windows 11?
If SteamOS provides a great user experience and all Steam games run on it, there's no reason to switch to Windows 11. However, there are concerns that some games may not immediately work on a non-Windows Steam Deck.
Valve is working closely with BattlEye and Easy Anti-Cheat to make the anti-cheat system work on Proton. System essential for several Steam games. Without anti-cheats, games will not run on SteamOS 3.0. In such cases, the alternative is to install Windows. That's why it's so important to get Windows 11 support on Steam Deck.
Yes, you can use Steam Deck like a real computer. It was amazing! Live desktop mode:
