Wink Hub Connects To SmartThings
As home automation becomes more popular, the free market is paying attention and trying to meet the demand. Wink Hub is part of this current trend. It is a device that allows many wireless devices to communicate with each other. Lights, thermostats, door locks, garage doors... and many other devices can be connected to the control panel. You usually use an app on your phone or tablet to control these devices. However, since it's a closed source tool, you won't be able to connect to all of them. The hacker not only rooted the device, but also managed to connect to devices it should never have connected to.
[Michael] was able to hack and take control of some devices used by one of Wink's main competitors, SmartThings. The process is not for the faint of heart and requires at least a yellow belt in Linux-fu. (Michael) You don't want to use a sticky center because if something goes wrong it can block you.
We've seen a few of those quotes come into play, and we're glad to see these methods stick. It's a shame that so many radio stations have been banned because the hardware allows them to make a great platform station. Cross-platform performance is critical for better core and user experience. The industry is not moving in that direction...Philips recently stopped supporting devices outside of the Hue family. But the community wanted this action, and their opposition led to Phillips' changes being quickly reversed. Hackers like [Michael] show what your home would look like if connected devices interacted with each other.
