Steam Decks First Big Problem: Playing Popular Games
In late May, it was rumored that Valve would soon introduce a handheld game console similar to the Nintendo Switch. Almost two months later, Valve released Steam Deck. It's bigger and more powerful than the Nintendo Switch, but the new gaming device seems to be catching on with fans. The incredible ordering process started on Friday in various markets. Many online players complain that they can't put their money where they want. It is not possible to buy the console, but to order it only with a small deposit. You can change your mind at any time after paying the initial $5.

Despite the initial excitement, Steam Deck may already have a major software problem facing Valve: running popular games that customers want.
The reason Nintendo released a new version of the Switch that lacks major hardware updates is because of the games. Nintendo has a huge collection of original games that gamers need. These games are not available anywhere else. Buyers may not like the Switch OLED's lack of hardware upgrades. But they will stay as long as they can get Mario and Link.
Valve's new console feels like a beefier machine than the Switch. Basically, it's a laptop that's supposed to run all the best games on the Steam store. But that's only a small part of the puzzle.
First problem with the Steam Deck software
Valve's Steam already has millions of subscribers. This explains the huge interest in Steam Deck. Unlike Nintendo, you can play all these Steam games on PC. As long as your device supports it, games will work.
Steam Deck isn't out yet, and there are already major software issues that Valve needs to fix. According to Kotaku , Steam Deck may not run some of Steam's most popular games. The list includes Destiny 2 , Apex Legends , Rainbow Six Siege and PUBG . That's a big deal for a game console that costs between $399 and $649 depending on storage options.
Valve's new Steam Deck has better hardware than the OLED Switch. Consequently, the higher price makes sense. But problems with the software can arise.
Steam Deck runs on Valve's Linux-based operating system (SteamOS). Also, Valve uses the Proton feature to run games on Linux.
However, running the aforementioned games has been a problem in the current Steam Deck prototype. Games seem to crash during or shortly after launch. Kotaku says the Steam Deck software issue now has an explanation. The anti-cheat system that came with the game didn't work very well in the prototype. This causes the player to "instant load" from the multiplayer server. This is an issue Valve needs to address before Steam Deck hits stores.
Solution for Windows
An unofficial fix already exists. You can run the full version of Windows 10 on the Steam Deck. Valve didn't force SteamOS on anyone, which is a great feature. But you'll have to pay for Windows if SteamOS won't let you run your favorite games.
