Samsung Smart Slide Induction Range, $2,599 (regular $4,178)

What should be considered before buying a stove or oven?

Appliance expert and repair technician Renee Duheim tells CBS Essentials that when you first buy an oven or range, you should consider the space you have available. "Measure the space to know what fits in," advises Duheim. “Most chimneys are 30 inches wide, but not all rooms are created equal, so measure up just in case. You should also look at the space to see what type of pot fits in there. installed (either there is a gas connection, or there is a 240V electricity connection). Once you know what's right for the room, you'll be prompted to get started.

Duhaime explained that you should also think about your lifestyle. “If you have small children or pets who like to climb onto worktops, a gas range would not be a good option as open flames can be dangerous. I always recommend the same thing with almost all device purchases. Skip all the bells and whistles. and only buy features you know you will use.”

If you need specific dialing features, according to our device expert, there's one feature you should always pay attention to. "The only feature I shouldn't miss is the steam cleaning," they said. “Steam cleaning is much gentler than the traditional self-cleaning of most ovens, which is very important. Traditional self-cleaning gets too hot to burn the food it contains, but it also gets incredibly hot enough to burn damaged parts. Done the right way it can even cause a house fire if not done right.

Steam cleaning is not only a very effective cleaning method, it is also much safer. It takes less time, uses less power and is much less dangerous.”

Should you switch from gas to electricity?

To answer this question, you need to know what kind of connection you have. "It's usually the wisest thing to buy something you feel like doing," Duheim said.

“If you have a choice, I always choose the train. Gas stoves allow better control of the temperature of the burners and a great advantage is that the hob can be used even when it is switched off. But they're also more difficult to clean, they're much less energy efficient than electric ranges, and the burners are less reliable than electric ranges," they explained.

What is the difference between an electric and an induction hob?

Electric appliances have an electric range on top and an electric range on the bottom. "Induction hobs have an induction hob on top and an electric hob on the bottom," explains Duheim.

“The difference between electric and induction furnaces is how they work. Electric furnaces use electricity to heat the coils of your burners, much like the filament of a lightbulb. Induction cooktops use electromagnetic currents to create a magnetic field, which is then passed through your cookware to heat it. So the main difference is that electric cooktops heat the pan while induction cooktops mean induction cooktops only heat up when the cookware comes into contact with it, making it the most energy efficient. option (and much safer if you have small children or pets).
