Samsung Galaxy S23 Problems And How To Fix Them
It's only the beginning of the year, but the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, and in particular the Galaxy S23 Ultra, is proving to be one of the best smartphones of 2023. With excellent build quality, a package of powerful processing, easy-to-use software and some of the best phone cameras in the game, every device in the range is worth buying. But, as with any new release, the Galaxy S23 is unfortunately no stranger to bugs and glitches. While Samsung does a good job of fixing major issues with software updates, some bug owners remain. Here is an overview of some common Samsung Galaxy S23 problems and how to fix them!
issue # Issue #1: Android Auto issues
Adam Birney / Android Authority
Users have complained that Android Auto is not working on their Samsung Galaxy S23 series cars. Android Auto issues are common with any new device, especially when using Android Auto Wireless, and the problem is usually caused by issues during the initial setup.
Possible solutions:
- You may experience issues with Android Auto if you used Smart Switch to set up a new phone. Before uninstalling and reinstalling Android Auto, you can try going to Settings > Applications > Android Auto and tapping Force Quit . Then click on Storage and select Clear cache and data . However, your best bet might be to uninstall and reinstall the app through the Google Play Store.
- If you're having trouble using Android Auto Wireless with your Galaxy S23, try setting up a wired connection first if possible. Connect your phone with a cable and configure Android Auto. After the initial wired connection setup, Android Auto Wireless should work fine. This is the step that worked for me when I was having issues with Android Auto.
- It could be a configuration problem. Your phone should automatically detect Car/Android Auto connectivity when you connect it. If not, tap the Android system notification in the drop-down bar and make sure it's set to File Transfer/Android Auto .
- If you are having issues such as frequent disconnections, make sure the cable is working properly and not broken or frayed.
- For issues like blank screen, Android Auto not charging, and other software issues, be sure to report them to Samsung. Go to the Samsung Members app and navigate to Get Support > Give Feedback > Bug Reports .
problem #2 Problem #2: Galaxy S23 fast charging or fast wireless charging not working
Robert Triggs/Android Authority
A common complaint about the new Galaxy S23 series is fast charging. While the Galaxy S23 has 25W fast charging, the S23 Plus and S23 Ultra offer 45W wired charging. These phones don't come with a bundled charger, so owners may experience charging issues. slower than expected when using older chargers.
Note that even with the advertised fast charging, the Galaxy S23 series does not charge as fast as some competitors from OnePlus and Xiaomi. In Android Authority's Galaxy S23 Ultra charging test, we found that it took 57 minutes to fully charge the phone with a compatible fast charger, while it could take up to 110 minutes with older 15W chargers from Samsung.
Possible solutions:
- Samsung Quick Charge is based on the USB Power Delivery PPS standard, so there are plenty of third-party chargers you can use in addition to Samsung's official 45W wall charger. You'll find some great compatible options in our roundup of best chargers you can get for the galaxy s23.
- A Reddit user also discovered that the cable included by Samsung in the box is a 3A cable which only supports 25W charging. They say you will need a different 5A cable and a 45W compatible charger for this. Get the fastest charging speed on S23 Plus and Ultra. If you need to buy a new one, take a look at our selection of the best charging cables. Even the official Samsung 45W charger comes with the correct cable.
- Slow charging may just be a configuration issue. Go to Settings > Battery and device care > Battery > Advanced battery settings and make sure fast charging is enabled. If you have a compatible 45W charger, this option will automatically activate super fast charging. For wireless charging, enable fast wireless charging .
issue # Issue #3: Notifications are not displaying as expected
Ryan Whitwam/Android Authority
Some Samsung Galaxy S23 owners are having issues with app notifications not appearing until they open an app. The issue seems to affect banking apps for some users, while others see the issue on social media and messaging apps like WhatsApp and Facebook.
Possible solutions:
- Your phone's battery optimization settings may cause notification delays. Go to Settings > Battery & device care > Battery > Background usage limits. Make sure that the apps you are having notification issues with are not in the Sleep and Hibernate app lists. Then tap Never sleep and tap the plus icon in the top right corner. Add problematic apps from the list.
- If it's a specific app, go to Settings > Apps > (app name) > Battery and select Unlimited.
- If the problem persists, you may need to reset the app settings. Go to Settings > Apps > (app name) > Storage and select Clear cache and Clear data . Deleting app data will sign you out of your account and you may lose your chats unless they are backed up. You can also try uninstalling and reinstalling the app if nothing else works.
problem # Problem #4: S Pen issues
Ryan Haynes/Android Authority
One of the most popular selling points of the Galaxy S23 Ultra is the S Pen stylus. However, many users have encountered the problem that the pen disconnects frequently when using Bluetooth. Although you don't need a Bluetooth connection to use the pen to record on your phone, you do need it for features like Air Actions.
Possible solutions:
- Although Samsung is apparently rolling out software updates to fix the connectivity issue, users are still facing the issue. A simple fix that works temporarily is to insert the stylus into its slot, wait a few seconds, then remove it again to reestablish the connection. However, users report that the S Pen keeps shutting off.
- Another solution that seems to work is "Keep S Pen attached". Go to Settings > More features > S Pen > More S Pen settings and tick Keep S Pen signed in . This will allow the stylus to plug in even when it's in the slot. However, this will cause the battery to drain.
- Another option is to reset the S Pen settings. Go to Settings > Advanced features > S Pen , tap the icon with three vertical dots in the upper right corner and select Reset S Pen . Return to the S Pen page and you will see a message that the pen is connecting to Air Actions. Wait for the connection to complete. If this does not happen after a few minutes, you may need to restart your phone.
issue # Issue #5: Wi-Fi 6 connection issues on Galaxy S23
Ryan Haynes/Android Authority
Some users are experiencing Wi-Fi connectivity issues on their Galaxy S23 devices when using Wi-Fi 6 routers. You see “Connected but no internet” error.
Possible solutions:
- Samsung is aware of this issue and is releasing an update to fix it. Some users claim that the February update fixed the problem, but the complaints are still there. This issue should be fully resolved in a future software update.
- This solution is from a Galaxy S22 that frequently disconnected when connected to Wi-Fi 6 routers. But it might work here too. The router settings may be causing the problem. The setting may be in different settings menus depending on your router, but the setting you want to disable is called Fast Roaming . On a Linksys router, go to the router's settings page, select Privacy , and turn off fast roaming (802.11r) .
problem # Problem #6: Edge lighting not working on Galaxy S23
Harley Maranan / Android Authority
Some users say that Edge lighting does not work for all apps on Galaxy S23 devices.
Possible solutions:
- Edge lighting may not be enabled on your device. Go to Settings > Notifications > Popup Notification Style > Sidelight Style and make sure one of the options is selected. On the previous screen , enable Show even when the screen is off . For apps that don't have edge lighting, make sure "pop-up notifications" are enabled. Go to Settings > Notifications > App notifications , touch the app name and go to notification categories . Select a category and enable "Show as Popup". On the screen above, make sure pop-ups are allowed under Notification Types.
"Common" problems on the Galaxy S23

galaxy s23 ultra
While the Galaxy S23 faces unexpected issues and requires workarounds or software updates, some users are complaining that these are normal and present on every device. Of course, even the expected issues shouldn't occur on such expensive phones, but solutions are readily available in the Settings menu.
Battery life issues
The Samsung Galaxy S23 series and especially the S23 Ultra offer fantastic battery life. However, not everyone is happy with the battery life experience. There are plenty of things you can do to further extend your phone's battery life.
- Go to Settings > Battery and device care > Battery > Advanced battery settings > Performance profile and select Light . This setting prioritizes battery life and cooling efficiency over processing speed. Many users report that they don't notice much difference in their daily work after switching to this profile.
- You can also change other phone settings, but this may affect the proper functioning of the phone. On the Galaxy S23 Ultra, go to Settings > Display > Screen resolution and change the resolution from WQHD+ to FHD+. On all S23 devices, go to Settings > Display > Motion Smoothness and select Standard . This will reduce the refresh rate from 120Hz to 60Hz, which will make a noticeable difference in your browsing experience. You can also switch your device to dark mode in the display settings. Another display option to turn off is Extra Brightness . While this is a useful feature on the road, it will drain your battery more.
- Keeping your phone screen on all the time can also drain your battery. Go to Settings > Lock screen > Always-on screen . You can turn it off. But Samsung offers a few useful options. You can change the setting to "Show new notifications" or click "Show on time" to set a time when AOD will be active.
- You can also save battery when connected to a Wi-Fi network. Go to Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi and tap the name of the Wi-Fi. Tap the icon with three vertical dots in the upper right corner and go to Smart Wi-Fi. Scroll down and enable Wi-Fi power saving mode.
- The last setting you need to enable isn't for immediate battery life, but it does help ensure longevity. Go to Settings > Battery & device care > Battery > Advanced battery settings and turn on Battery protection . This setting ensures that your phone only charges up to 85%.
- Another useful way to ensure longevity and a good gaming experience is to use the Galaxy S23's bypass charging feature.
Fingerprint reader not working due to tempered glass protector
This is an annoying problem that is actually "normal" because the Galaxy S23's under-screen fingerprint scanner does not work well with tempered glass screen protectors. It's best to get a TPU screen protector for the Galaxy S23, but some tempered glass options work with the fingerprint reader after changing phone settings. Go to Settings > Display and enable Touch Sensitivity . You can also add fingerprints again after applying the screen protector.
Crack when the phone is broken
You may hear a slight ringing when you shake the phone in the center of the camera. This clicking noise is caused by the phone's optical image stabilization components moving when you shake it. This is a completely normal phenomenon that you will find on all smartphones with OIS.
