Local Kids Celebrate Super Red Friday
February 10 - With three Super Bowls in the last four years, the students of St. Joseph grew up with a unique tradition of preparing for the big game.
"I know my parents have been waiting for something like this for years, long before I was alive," said Oak Grove Elementary fifth-grader Noah Kemmerling. "I'm happy for another win for the Chiefs."
At S. Francis Xavier School, students enjoyed Chiefs-style lunches while miming the "Tomahawk Chop" and listening to Kansas City fan favorites like Tech N9ne's "Red Kingdom." S. Francis Xavier freshman Evan Parksell predicted the Chiefs would win the game because of their dominance on both ends of the line of scrimmage.
"The defense has to step up, and I think the pass rush will," Parksell said. “The offensive line has to step up, too, because Patrick Mahomes is still injured and everything. But it's a lot of fun. We have a lot of energy for Red Friday."
Maria Ebai from the school of St. Christian. More importantly for him, Mahomes, who won his second NFL MVP award on Thursday night and has previously credited God for his accomplishments, is a good role model for Ebay.
"It's amazing that this Christian leader is such a great representative," Ebay said. "Because we want more people to have a relationship with God, and it's great to have a favorite player who is also a Christian and shares that with everyone."
Before Friday's practice, Kemmerling wore a Mahomes headband complete with a wig that mimics the quarterback's iconic hairstyle.
"I put on my jersey and went to my locker and thought about what other Chiefs stuff I could wear," Kemmerling said. I even forgot I had it. I took it off the shelf and put it on. He is my favorite QB in the entire world. He can do anything with his hand.
