Who doesn't want a West Village home with a $2.5 million makeover and an office and glass-roofed deck? Beth Comstock, the current owner of 62 Jane Street, was lucky enough to live in the five-story home after she and her husband, CTO Chris Travers, bought it in 2012 for $5.75 million. Comstock was the first woman. he was named vice president of General Electric, a position he held after a long career as a media executive. According to the Wall Street Journal, the couple put the property up for sale for $10.995 million.
Located on the village's charming cobbled street, the iconic 22-metre-wide Greek Revival terraced house was built in the 1850s. The house's restoration project lasted two and a half years and was led by architects Catherine Ogawa and Gilles Depardon. The gray stone staircase to the living room floor retains original details such as wide floors, a fireplace, and original French shutters framed by 11-foot ceilings.
The formal dining room has a breakfast bar with sink. A glass wall at the rear overlooks the patio.
On the ground floor, at the garden level, is the open kitchen with elegant European-style wooden cabinets. The cozy living room is framed by a sliding glass wall that opens directly onto the garden terrace behind.
The basement utilizes every square inch of this 4,100 square foot home, offering a den/study, storage space, and laundry room, in addition to the home's mechanicals.
Upstairs on the second floor there are two bedrooms each with a bathroom. The front bedroom has a fireplace, built-in bookshelves, and three windows that look out over beautiful Jane Street.
The upper floor consists of a spacious master suite. Here you will find a non-standard dressing room, skylights and a fireplace under high ceilings (during the renovation, the ceilings on all floors were raised).
The fifth floor is a gem conservatory currently used as an office and gym with a breakfast bar. Outside there is a landscaped roof terrace with uninterrupted views over the northern and southern village rooftops.
The historic house is fully furnished with 21st century items. High-tech upgrades include a Siedle door with remote camera/doorbell and lock, Lutron remote lighting system, Lucifer LED lights, Ethernet cable and Wi-Fi network, gas generator, water filtration and water pressure. Pressure groups, 240 volt socket under the porch to recharge electric cars, alarm and security system, sprinkler irrigation system, humidifier and automatic irrigation in the garden and on the roof.
