No. 24 Virginia Tech Stars Slow, Then Blows Out Grambling

Sean Pedula led Virginia Tech's #24 perimeter offense with 21 points in a 74-48 win over Grambling in Blacksburg, Virginia on Saturday.
Hunter Catur had 13 points, all of his field goals coming on four 3-pointers, and Justin Mattes added 11 points for the Hokies (11-1), as they overcame a 10-point opening hole to win their sixth straight game.
Pedula, who led his team with six assists and five rebounds, also had four treys as part of Virginia Tech's 11-of-27 shooting from long range. The Hawkeyes shot 51% from the field, while the Tigers held to 36.5%.
The card was Gordon's 12 points and 10 walks for Cameron Christon (6-4), who beat Colorado and Vanderbilt in the power conference but couldn't claim another one of those wins. The Tigers committed 19 turnovers.
Nine of Virginia Tech's first 17 field goals were from 3-point range, giving the team a 47-31 lead at the time. Pedula was four.
Catur hit two 3-pointers in a 10-0 run in the second half and the Hokies opened up a 63-36 lead.
However, despite strong long-range shooting, Virginia Tech was just 11-of-20 on free throws.
Virginia Tech displayed a strong transition offense that helped set up some 3-pointers.
Grambling finished just 5th with 18 3-pointers in his second meeting with a Virginia Tech team that also won their first game seven years ago.
Grambling got off to a good start and built a 23-13 lead. Pedula scored the first five points of Virginia Tech's 16-0 run.
This was Virginia Tech's last non-conference game. The Homies are 8-0, including an Atlantic Coast Conference win over North Carolina earlier this month.
The Hokies, playing nationally for the first time this season, led 34-25 at halftime. Virginia Tech opened the second half with a 16-6 run, during which Pedula hit a pair of 3-pointers.
