Italys Biggest Datacentre Campus To Enjoy €500m Growth Spurt

Italian cloud services provider Aruba SpA has already attracted €500 million in investment, which it is using to expand its Global Cloud Data Center (GCDC) site in Ponte San Pietro, Italy's largest server farm.

The company has added two more data centers to its 200,000 square meter campus: one with three large data rooms measuring 17,000 square meters with a capacity of 9 MW, and the other a multi-storey center with eight data rooms spread over two levels and occupying an area of 14,000 square meters. The capacity is 8 megawatts.

“The data centers of the latest generation are the result of Aruba’s many years of experience in developing, designing, constructing and managing high-tech infrastructure and have become a reference point for digitization in Italy in terms of IT infrastructure, reinforcing the GCDC’s active position on a broader path of national transformation and innovation.”

“Data centers store the data of millions of Italian and foreign citizens and companies and will create important skilled jobs in the region.”

In addition, the company has also added an event space known as Aruba Auditorium, which can accommodate 400 people.

Aruba later announced plans to build two more data centers in the country and set up a training school known as the Aruba Academy to ensure the company had access to the technology talent it needed to staff the facility. It has established cooperative relations with the University of Bergamo and the Polytechnic of Turin.

Aruba CEO Stefano Ciccone said the expansion of the GCDC will play an important role in supporting the digital transformation efforts of businesses across the country and will do so in a sustainable manner.

The campus currently receives its energy from renewable sources, and the campus infrastructure includes photovoltaic and geothermal systems and is connected to a hydroelectric power plant on the nearby Brembo River.

“We design our technology campus not only to be future-proof, but also to be as environmentally sustainable as possible to reduce environmental impact, make consumption more efficient, fully meet reliability and safety standards and achieve the highest level of certification,” said Cecconi.

“We are very excited to open the new Aruba Hall, a space for convergence and interaction that will allow us and other local businesses and events to organize events in a high-tech and innovative context…
