Steam Deck OLED Announced; Promises Better Battery Life & Faster Downloads
Today, Valve announced its new Steam Deck portable computer with an OLED display, simply Steam Deck OLED.
The new Steam Deck Edition is available in two sizes, 512GB and 1TB, priced at $549 and $649, respectively. There is a limited edition for $649, but it is only available in the United States and Canada.
The old version of LDC is now $349 for the 64GB version and $449 for the 512GB version. The price of the 256GB version has dropped to $399, but it won't be discontinued like the other models. It is now considered the new entry level Steam Deck model and will continue to be produced.
The new device offers some new advantages over the new screen, claiming "incredible contrast, brilliant clarity, large image, rich colors, pure black and incredible motion reproduction". Although it's actually a bit bigger (7.4 inches instead of 7), the resolution remains the same at 1280 x 800.
The battery is big. 3-12 hours of playback combined with the APU's small 6nm node is a 50Wh battery. That's 30-50% more than the LCD version's 40Wh battery.
Wi-Fi 6E replaces the older Wi-Fi 5 and promises faster downloads, while a larger fan and updated heatsinks promise cooler performance. It also weighs 5% less than the original LCD version.
You can read the full details on the official website, but the rest is the same as the old Steam floor.
If you already have an LCD model, at least all the accessories are compatible.
The 1 TB model retains, among other things, the main features of the old 512 GB model in the form of a high-quality anti-reflective glass screen.
If you're feeling fancy, the limited edition comes in a variety of colors, 1TB of storage, high-quality anti-reflective etched glass, and a custom carrier with a removable cover.
