It Looks Like A New Steam Deck Is Coming After All, And We're Cautiously Excited

If you're familiar with tech company lingo, you'll know that "we have no plans" usually means "we don't have any plans that we want to talk about at this time " — so when talking about a company like Valve. Since no new Steam Decks have been created, this should be handled with care. And for all I know, Valve is creating a new vapor layer.

This news actually started a few weeks ago, but has now been confirmed: on August 13, Valve submitted the new Steam Surface for FCC certification. The device, named Valve 1030, has been certified by another regulatory body, South Korea's National Radio Research Agency. And the reason we're checking it out now is because Valve is as cunning as any video game protagonist: he plays this particular game in stealth mode, hiding his identity so as not to set off alarms.

A little. Valve controls this particular device through its Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip maker, and the app was developed on behalf of Quectel, not Valve. This means that the specifications are still unclear: the only thing we can be sure of is that the new Steam Surface has better Wi-Fi with Wi-Fi 6E or higher.

That may be the only difference, but it seems highly unlikely – and it may not have better Wi-Fi because it's not certified for the 6G Wi-Fi 6E band in Korea, The Verge reports. The only thing we know for sure is that the device exists and exists. Plus, your ranking is now as good as ours.

And while you're at it, there's something else you might want to consider: Valve's next-generation VR headset for PC. Detective Brad Lynch, who discovered the new Steam Deck, discovered several pieces of code related to the new VR headset. Given the timing, it's likely these devices will come out of stealth mode at the same time they officially come out of stealth mode.

Steam Deck replaced... seriously
